Sunrise Health System goes blue for National Child Abuse Prevention day
Las Vegas, Nev. — In a powerful demonstration of support for children in our community, the Sunrise Health System is turning blue for National Child Abuse Prevention Day. Colleagues at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Sunrise Children’s Hospital, Southern Hills Hospital, MountainView Hospital and the HCA Healthcare Far West Division offices are coming together to raise awareness by wearing blue.
This initiative underscores the urgent need to recognize and prevent child abuse, an issue that continues to impact children in our community at alarming rates.
“As a pediatric emergency physician, child abuse is a significant part of what we see and train for,” said Dr. Yaron Ivan, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Attending Physician at Sunrise Children’s Hospital. “Unfortunately, in this city, the prevalence of child abuse is very high, and early recognition is crucial in saving lives.”
Statistics show that fifty percent of children admitted to the hospital for child abuse-related injuries have previously been seen by the healthcare system, yet their abuse was not identified. This stark reality highlights the importance of early detection and intervention. By bringing awareness to the issue, the Sunrise Health System aims to help prevent these tragic situations and provide the necessary resources for at-risk children and families.
As the health system with the largest, most comprehensive Children’s Hospital in Nevada, Sunrise Health System remains committed to advocating for the most vulnerable members of our community. By turning blue, our teams are sending a message that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment. We encourage the public to be vigilant—if you see something, say something. Reporting suspected abuse can save a child’s life. The Clark County Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline number is 702-399-0081. The hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
