Labor and delivery
Just as every baby is unique, so is every delivery. As your trusted care partner, we work to provide a personalized birthing experience that begins long before your first contraction and continues well after delivery.
Our childbirth program
Our experienced obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYNs) collaborate with you and your family to achieve a safe and healthy birth experience.
Labor and delivery rooms
We want your labor and delivery experience to be as calm and comfortable as possible. To support this, our team offers a variety of holistic touches designed to create a relaxing environment. Depending on availability, you may request items such as a Himalayan salt lamp, flameless candles, birthing ball or peanut ball, sound machines, or an upright birth position seat.
Our labor and delivery unit also features:
- Private, spacious labor and delivery suites with an adjustable bed and guest sitting area
- Luxury recovery suites with a separate sitting room and adjustable bed for loved ones (available for a fee)
- 23 postpartum rooms with televisions and private restrooms
- Advanced technology and equipment to enhance your birth experience
To celebrate each new arrival, a lullaby chimes throughout the hospital. After delivery, you’ll also enjoy a complimentary three-course celebratory meal for you and a guest.
Amenities and support at our birth center
We are committed to creating a supportive environment for you and your baby. Our services include:
- Advanced infant security system
- Complimentary valet parking and wireless internet
- Family-centered couplet care to promote bonding
- Pullout couch for guest
For families preferring low-intervention childbirth, our nurses provide expert guidance while allowing you to maintain control in a safe setting. Nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) is also available as a self-administered option to help ease pain and anxiety.
Packing for birth
Your care team will provide standard hospital supplies for you and your baby as necessary for your use during your stay. Availability may vary based on your care needs.
This may include:
- Breast pumps (for hospital use only)
- Diapers
- Formula
- Peri bottles
- Postpartum pads and ice packs
- Postpartum disposable underwear
- Wipes
Although your care team provides many standard hospital supplies, you may want to bring a few personal items for comfort:
- Extra blankets and pillows (for mother and guest)
- Going home outfit for mother and baby
- Long phone chargers
- Personal hygiene products (preferred shower products, oral hygiene, etc.)
Before discharge, please plan to have a rear-facing infant car seat available for your baby’s trip home. Southern Hills Hospital staff are not certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and cannot provide car seat installation, inspection or safety certification services.
Maternity classes and hospital tours
Touring the hospital before your baby arrives can help ease anxiety and prepare you for delivery. Our maternity team offers in-person tours of the labor and delivery and mother-baby units, showcasing our modern suites and amenities.
We also provide a variety of classes led by experienced childbirth educators, including:
- Newborn basics
- Childbirth preparation
- Prenatal yoga and “Baby & Me” yoga
- Daddy Bootcamp
You can register for classes and tours online or by calling (844) 630-5295.
