Meet the TCT Team, Apheresis Nurses: Luz P.
What do you do for our TCT clinic?
My job is to collect patients' stem cells in preparation for their bone marrow transplant
Why did your pursue a career in oncology, and specifically BMT care?
While in nursing school I completed a rotation in a cancer clinic in the community and that is what opened up my interest into oncology and I was lucky enough to get a position on the oncology unit through the StarRN program. While working on the unit BMT came about and I was one of the nurses that got the opportunity to go to Austin to train at one of our sister facilities for our BMT unit and that's when I knew that I found where I belonged.
What would you want people to know about getting their care at MVH?
Having the opportunity to stay home while going through a tough treatment is an advantage. We take this personal and we always strive to make sure that we make every patient's experience a positive one. We get to know our patients very closely and we care for them like one of our own.
When you aren’t caring for patients, what do you like to do?
I love spending time with my little family at home, my husband, my 7 month old and my dog. Every day its an adventure with them!
